While we couldn’t conduct The Dogwood Invitational this past week, it’s been fun to look back on highlights of the event’s history, players and purpose.
This past week has also been a special one for the Druid Hills Golf Club Foundation for another reason. Thanks to the technology of the day, we were able to interview the finalist candidates for our Wayne Reynolds Scholarship. We’re pleased to tell you that the finalists all represented themselves extremely well, and made it exceptionally difficult to select our recipient. We were however able to come to a decision, and we will announce the individual in the coming weeks, along with our first ever Employee Scholarship. Our candidates have also served as a terrific reminder of the future; all were an inspiration to us in differing and meaningful ways.
The events of this week also serve as another important reminder, specifically that of the connection between the Foundation and the Dogwood Invitational. Most of the revenue to fund our DHGC Foundation scholarships are raised via the tournament, comprised mainly of entry fees and sponsorships. While there is no event this year, our obligation to fund those scholarships does not go away.
Today we are announcing an upcoming event to our golf calendar for 2020, the Member Dogwood. The events purpose will be to have a fun member event as we always do, but it will be the principal fund raising event of the year for the Foundation. We will supply more details in the coming weeks, but the events entry fee will be primarily to support the Foundation and fund the 2020 scholarships. Of course, please feel free to reach out to Ed Klein or Scott Avery to learn more about how you can make a tax-deductible contribution to the Foundation.
We look forward to having players, sponsors, members and golf patrons back on the grounds at Druid Hills Golf Club next June to continue the tradition of the Dogwood Invitational.
Thank you and we hope you have enjoyed the online Dogwood for 2020.
